ART MAJORS
Art majors should not have to take an economics class. What do facts and figures about the job market and the stock market have to do with drawing and painting? Still, I had to take this course to satisfy the general electives. I’ve kept up all semester and I’ve got the final tomorrow night. I’ve been studying for weeks and I think I’ve got it all down except the parts about bankruptcy laws. I don’t think I’d be able to get through a multiple-choice questionnaire about the topic, but I think if that part is covered by essays that I should do well enough with it. After all, if I’m going to be an artist, I’m probably going to be a starving artist and be well acquainted with being bankrupt most of the time. My brother kids around and says that I’ll be living day to day and that I might as well be a drifter, but I’m pretty sure I can get work as a commercial artist for an advertising agency or somewhere similar. Obviously, my main goal is to open my own gallery eventually and when I’m basically running my own business like that maybe all that I’ve learned in this economics class will come in handy. Maybe it will turn out that taking this class was a good idea in the end.
