BAD MUSIC

It disturbed me a great deal when my girlfriend decided to steal my iPod. Of course I noticed it was missing when I went to grab it before I headed out for my daily morning jog around the neighborhood. I couldn’t even find my

iPod case

. I searched every inch of my place for it and thought that I must have left it in my car or at the health club. Then when I was at her place, I found an iPod on her kitchen table while she was in the shower. I knew she didn’t have one and was curious to see what kind of music she put on it and then that’s how I discovered it was mine. Sure, she’d added some bad music to it, but she hadn’t bothered to erase the pictures and videos I’d saved onto it too. The same scratch going up the side was even there. My own girlfriend had stolen my iPod and even added all this terrible music to it like Panic At the Disco, Dashboard Confessional, and Justin Timberlake. Upon seeing Justin Timberlake, I almost burned the iPod, but then realized I didn’t have enough money to replace it. So I slipped it into my pocket and walked out. I never called her again or saw her again. I even had her number blocked off my phone. I don’t know if it insulted me more that she stole from me or that she has horrible taste in music.

REWARDS NIGHT

Yesterday we had rewards night at the store. That is when we invite customers that spend a certain amount of money with us to the store after hours and offer them more points on their credit cards while we serve them hors d’oeuvres and various alcoholic drinks throughout the night. I think the underlined purpose is to get the customers drunk so that they will spend more money. A friend of mine spent the night dodging one customer who had one to many cosmopolitans and way too much food on his plate. He kept telling her about his job working for a Washington DC Bankruptcy firm with a piece of lettuce hanging out of his mouth, all the while shoving more food in. and then there were two guys sitting watching the game on one of the televisions in our departments for the whole night. They were actually entertaining sitting there while their wives shopped and brought the various food items. It kept us awake for the most part because the traffic was relatively slow for an event that had over five hundred rsvps. I guess it was more so for the women and the guys went along for the ride and free food. I am not sure I blame them either, food, drink, and a baseball game, what more do you need?

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

My mom is a well-intentioned person, she really is, but sometimes she is not the brightest light bulb on the back porch. She knew that my dad had an electric drill that he has had for a long time, but had been complaining recently that it needed new drill bits. I guess he had worn out his old ones. She went to the hardware store with the intention of buying him a new drill bit set. Instead, she bought a set of end mills, which to her defense, look a whole lot like drill bits. My dad thought it was pretty funny, and was easily able to exchange them for the correct drill bit set to match his trusty old drill. That incident could be chalked up to a mistake, if not for her previous track record. Someone the other day was talking about the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. She started talking about the Pilgrims, and somebody had to tell her that those were Christopher Columbus’ boats and that the Mayflower was the boat that the Pilgrims came over on. Another time my dad was talking about going to British Columbia, and my mom said that she did not want to go to England.

SENSITIVE EAR FOR MUSIC

By personal admission I have a very low tolerance for pain.  I think it is linked with my perfect ear for music. If I hear one wrong not it causes me so much pain! I don’t want anything to do with anything that’s going to cause me even the slightest amount of discomfort. Besides music, this especially goes for grooming.  So I searched for quite a while to find a Chicago hair remover that was completely painless.  That meant that waxing was out, electrolysis was out, threading was out - and I don’t enjoy self inflicted pain either so plucking was most certainly out as well.  It looked like my only option for a pain free solution to unwanted hair was through laser hair removal.  The treatments cost quite a bit more than waxing, but if it really is pain free, than paying the extra money will be worth it.  Another seemingly big plus is the fact that laser hair removal can potentially be a permanent solution, so after sitting through a few sessions on the same area I shouldn’t have to worry about the unwanted hair at all anymore.  There really couldn’t be a more suitable solution for a person who can’t handle one iota of pain, and the fact that I eventually won’t have to do anything at all is a huge bonus– I really couldn’t care less if it cost a hundred times what the other methods do.

RECORDING MUSIC

I need a break from all the recording and music-related stuff I've been doing! It's been exciting but I'm exhausted. I spent the entire week figuring out a data storage solution for the songs I've been able to finish. That part was easy and I'm really happy with it. I've made it possible for everyone to be able to hear the music online now and I'm happy to say I finally have the recordings I've done up to this point all in one place.  The hardest part for me has been trying to write the lyrics. It always seems to turn out this way. I'm doing well with everything else but the hardest part is trying to think of what to say. I guess I've had quite a bit of other things on my mind too which has been making it even more difficult. You'd think recently breaking up with my girlfriend would provide plenty of good song-writing material but I guess sometimes I just find myself daydreaming and not really wanting to do much beyond that. Anyways, I think compiling all that stuff helped me get my mind off of her and I started to feel more motivated again!

PHONE CHIMES

At first they were just calling non stop. So I decided to take my phone off the hook for a few days. Those days without collection harassment were very peaceful. At one point I even forgot this was an issue in my life. That was until that fateful knock on the door. Door to door service was something I had never dreamed of. Curiously I opened my front door wondering who this handsome individual standing there was. As soon as I took a closer look, this fellow did not appear so handsome anymore. Shortly there after, he began to speak and introduced himself as Matt from the collection agency. If I were a rude woman I would have just slammed the door in his face. But this man was not being rude, he actually looked extremely sympathetic, it was just his job that made him an annoyance in my life. At a loss of words and money I simply lied and pretended to not be the owner of the house he was looking for and politely clicked the door shut. Feeling extremely relieved and proud of myself I flopped down on the couch for a minutes until I once again heard the horrible shrill of the phone.

COLLECTORS ITEMS

A lot of different people collect a lot of different things.  Baseball cards, football cards, comic books, posters, movies, DVD’s, shot glasses, autographs, and my Uncle Ralph even used to collect different kinds of golf aids.  When I was younger, I used to collect comic books and basketball cards until I had to get a job, discovered girls, and basically lost interest.  However, I have friends who went collecting those things well into their 30s.  Their collections are so large that they could fill their entire house with them.  Many of them filled their garages instead or rented out storage space.  However, I knew this radio deejay that used to collect old TV and movie memorabilia.  Old posters from films in the 40s and 50s and props like Robbie the Robot (yes, the actual Robbie the Robot), the other robot from Lost in Space, old ray guns, a light saber from Star Wars, a tricorder from Star Trek, a pair of Vulcan ears, and what he claimed was the fake gun that Johnny Depp used on that old show 21 Jump Street.  It was impressive to see all that decked out in his basement, but I got to wondering what all that was really for.  Just to show off to people?  I suppose he could sell it, but that’s all anyone could do with all that.

MUSIC, DANCE AND DRAMA

In school, every student was given a choice to pick an elective that they wanted to do for that entire year. Out of art, dance, music, and drama, I picked the latter. It was the only semi-normal elective that the school gave us, so what choice did I have? Now I know that I regret my choice; I just don’t know what to do. Every girl in my drama class was assigned a scene to act out with only one prop, and I was given a restaurant theme using one of our chef hats. When my teacher, Heather, mentioned that it was mandatory to wear the hat, I could not believe what I was hearing. I couldn’t mess up my hair! Every morning I spend at least twenty minutes to tame my thick, blonde, curly hair, and it would be impossible to remake it if it ever got messed up.  So there was no way that I would voluntarily put myself in that situation, and instead of speaking to the teacher calmly, I sulked and peevishly sat down in my seat. This was not my day. First I forgot my lunch at home, got a bad mark on my test, and now this! After giving myself some time to think, I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and find a solution. In no time I found the perfect thing to do! I would just pick out one of the really big hats so that it would not mess up my curls. That idea really worked, and even though I had to constantly lift the hat so that my face would not be obscured, my hair was as good as new when my scene was over. It was great!

BLUES BROTHERS

Blues Brothers was on the other day, and it really reminded me why it was one of my favorite movies of all time.  It all starts because the orphanage the stars of the movie, Jake and Elwood, grew up in cannot pay its taxes, and needs to figure out how to file bankruptcy.  The guys decide that they are going to save the orphanage, and thus starts the adventure and the hilarity.  Aside from all of the memorable scenes and lines, the music is absolutely amazing.  The Blues Brothers as a band even had a decent amount of success after the movie, and managed to survive as a touring act.  I love Dan Aykroyd’s dancing throughout the entire movie.  People just do not move like he does.  It is almost as if he were made of rubber.  I also really like the scenes where entire crowds of people spontaneously break out into dance.  It is like the parade scene in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  There are so many famous musicians in the movie, which includes Cab Calloway, Ray Charles and James Brown.  There are also other smaller roles for greats such as Carrie Fisher.  All in all, the movie has laughs throughout, and I could watch it every time it is on.
